The
aroma of Cuban coffee fills the air, palm trees sway in the breeze,
the sound of dominos clashing, and music is seemingly everywhere
you turn. Little Havana is the center of the Cuban exile community
in America. As one man put it, "Little Havana is the emotional
homestead for most Cubans living in the US". After Castro took
control of Cuba in 1959, most exiles who fled Cuba found themselves
settling into this 25 block enclave. This influx of refugees changed
the face of Miami. A thriving and vibrant Latin American community
was born.
